''Be bold, be courageous, be your best.''  -Gabrielle Giffords
We would like to acknowledge that Programme Mile End High School is located on unceded Indigenous lands in a place known as Tiohtià:ke which is historically recognized as a gathering place for many First Nations, including the Haudenosaunee Confederacy, the Huron/Wendat, the Abenaki, and the Anishinaabeg peoples. Today, we recognize the Kanien’keha:ka as the traditional custodians of the land and water.

As a school, it is particularly important for us to name the systemic harm done to Indigenous children and families by governmental and educational institutions, and we are painfully aware of the ways in which they continue to affect Indigenous people today.

May this acknowledgement be a beginning in our collective responsibility to recognize our colonial history and its consequences on Indigenous Peoples and their territory, as well as to take concrete steps to move forward, informed by the voices and experiences of Indigenous peoples.

Niawen'kó:wa, Thank you,
